After the smash hit success of the first ever Short+Sweet Dubai in 2013, the Dubai version of the largest festival of 10-minute plays in the world will return bigger and better in February this year.

Short+Sweet Dubai 2014 will include something for everyone – comedy, drama, romance and thrillers – and all in just 10 minutes!

It will be held at DUCTAC in the Mall of the Emirates from 5th February to 22nd February. More than 150 of Dubai’s most exciting actors, writers, directors and Independent Theatre Companies will present over seventy (70) 10-minute plays at Dubai’s top theatre venue.

The exciting highlight of this festival this time is that for the first time the Festival will climax with the Red Carpet Gala Final – the biggest night of the year in Dubai theatre – where the stars of the local theatre scene will gather to perform the best ten plays of the Festival and present awards to Dubai’s top actors, directors, writers and Theatre Companies.

Short+Sweet Dubai is Dubai’s only multi-lingual theatre festival and the only event that brings together all Dubai’s top theatre groups – Backstage, Dubai Drama Group, Third Half Theatre, Theatrics, American School of Dubai, Loom Ensemble and Theatrewallas Productions.

Plays presented in the festival will include the best 10-minute plays from around the world as well as scripts by some of Dubai’s top playwrights, brought to life by Dubai’s top actors and directors.

Plays will be presented in English, Arabic and Hindi and feature experienced international actors as well as exciting local talent.

And in a boost for 2014, Short+Sweet’s creative team will be bolstered by Creative Consultant Sabina Khandwani, winner of the 2011 Emirates Woman of the Year Award, Director of Development Anil Kumar and new Associate Festival Director Liz Hadaway. Liz will also be leading Short+Sweet Acting workshops at DUCTAC during January and February for those keen to develop their acting skills, and climaxing with a performance in the Festival.

“There aren’t a lot of chances in Dubai to act in or direct a play or see a play you’ve written come to life on stage” explained Festival Director of Short+Sweet Dubai, Alex Broun.

“Short+Sweet Dubai is the only theatre event that brings all of Dubai’s top actors, writers, directors and theatre groups together in one venue to celebrate the best of Dubai theatre.

Short+Sweet Dubai 2013 was an amazing success and was much bigger and better than we ever thought it could be. The talent in Dubai really is amazing,” said Alex.

“With the addition of a touch of glamour with our new Red Carpet Gala Final, and Sabina, Anil and Liz now officially on board the Festival will be even better, ” he added.
