Multicultural March celebration kicks-off this week

Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello launched a state-wide programme of activities including concerts, street markets, sports competitions and awards, which are taking place throughout Multicultural March.

While hosting the media briefing , Dominello said that the level of the community engagement during the AFC Asian Cup and ICC Cricket World Cup demonstrated the strength of NSW’s cultural diversity.

“In NSW we live in one of the most culturally diverse societies in the world with 45 per cent of people either born overseas or having one parent born overseas and one in five people speaking a language other than English at home,” Dominello said.

“The Baird Government is inviting people from all walks of life to get involved in Multicultural March a month-long celebration of one of our greatest social and economic assets – our cultural diversity.”

“The Premier’s Harmony Diner will be held at Rosehill Racecourse on Thursday 12 March and tickets are currently on sale via the Multicultural NSW website.”

“ It promises to be an action- packed evening , bringing together leaders from across the community , where winners of the Premier’s Multicultural Community Medals and inductees to the Honour Roll will be announced.”

“Now it is the fourth  year, Multicultural March  ` is an initiative of the NSW Government  which complements  National Harmony Day (held on 21 March). It provides an opportunity  for all communities  to celebrate diverse  cultures which make up  our Australian values.”

“I am pleased to announce that the 2015 Multicultural Media Awards will be held on June 25 and nomination details   for the prestigious awards program  will be made available shortly.”

Multicultural NSW CEO Hakan Harnam said, “ Multicultural March reminds us, that apart from the First Australians , we are all part of this country’s rich migrant story.”

“Our identity as Australians is made up of 170 unique cultures  and I urge  everyone to take the opportunity  to participate  in activities that will broaden their understanding of the diverse cultural communities  which make up our state.”

“ We are looking forwards to welcoming more than 1000 representatives of multicultural communities  to the Premier’s Harmony Dinner for an evening of multicultural food , fashion and performance.”

Guests will  include Members of Parliament , business leaders , various community leaders , ambassadors and Consuls-General , as well as other dignitaries.

The Premier’s Harmony Dinner is proudly supported by partners Settlement Services International and Village Plaza Shepherds Bay , Business Risks International , media partners SBS and SKY News and venue partner Rosehill Gardens.
