‘Heritage Festival- 2014’ as the name suggests is a festival to celebrate the rich heritage of the Indian sub-continent which includes diverse cultures and ethical backgrounds.
It is an initiative of GOPIO Sydney where in the team members are trying to bring the rich and diverse Indian culture under one roof. This event is scheduled for September 7, 2014 at Sydney Bahai’s Centre, 107 Derby St Silverwater 2128.
India is a land of diversity and there is ‘unity in that diversity’ which makes that country unique. Every state has its own language, its own culture , life styles, and festivals but when it comes to represent the country on international platform, India’s diverse dance forms, music, culture etc. creates a magic.
Keeping this in view , GOPIO Sydney is organising ‘Heritage INDIA Festival 2014’ to showcase the rich and diverse Indian culture by way of Indian Arts, music, dance, culture and cuisine so as to promote the cultural identity of Indian Diaspora as well as cultural diplomacy for better Indo-Australian relations.
Bhupinder Chhibber, President of GOPIO, Sydney is very optimistic about the event. He feels exuberant while emphasizing on the fact that they are involving and sourcing the upcoming local talent and not bringing any established artists from overseas.
“A plethora of cultural activities are arranged by various cultural and linguistic groups of Diaspora, most of these have either regional or Bollywood tones but none of them have really tried to embark on the idea to showcase rich and diverse cultural forms and ethos from most of the states of India. GOPIO Sydney has taken a lead in this direction”.
“ This festival is unique in itself as it is different from the routine events where generally Bollywood overshadows everything. It is a festival to represent different dance forms, culture, life style , festivals of the different states of India . Furthermore we are trying to bring forward the local talent and we are not bringing any established artists from overseas”.
“We are encouraging the local talent to come forward and participate. This event is particularly devoted towards the Indian community living in Australia . It will be a good platform for the new artists to come forward and showcase their talent as in this way they will get exposure and a chance to share their talent with other community people,” adds Chhibber.
So, don’t miss the chance to showcase your talent by participating in Heritage Festival -2014. There is no age bar. Doors are open for anyone and everyone from Indian background!!!!!!
