Ganpati Bappa Morya !!! ATF celebrates ‘Ganesh Festival’ in Sydney

It was a day full of celebration and excitement as more than 300 people gathered to participate in the ‘Ganesh Festival- 2014’ at Ermington Community centre in Western Sydney on August 30, 2014.

Indian cultural organization, Australian Telangana State Association (previously known as Australian Telangana Forum)   made tireless efforts in gathering Telangana people especially form Hyderabad to join them on this auspicious occasion.

It was a free event and the festival was celebrated with much pomp and show by all the Sydneysiders especially by the people originated from Hyderabad.

Lord Ganesha is one of the deities most widely worshipped in the Hindu religion. ‘Ganesh Festival’ is very popular in India, especially in Hyderabad and thousands of people participate in the celebration all over India.

About 25 children participated in idol making of lord Ganesha. Out of that, prizes were given to the top three winners.

Priest performed Saamoohika Ganesh pooja (combined prayer) with 20 families. Later pooja pens were distributed to children.

Another highlight of the event was   the Hyderabad tradition of Ganesha Laddu Auction.

Ganesh Laddu is a sweet made out of yellow split peas, sugar syrup and other ingredients. It is a popular sweet offered to Ganesh Pooja in Hyderabad.  It is considered auspicious to home as well as to the business community.

In laddu auction, Karri Reddy and his group members Ravinder, Giri Reddy, Naveen Reddy, Anil Madikonda, Sunil Reddy Maram and Rajshaker Reddy Kallem emerged as the winner with winning bid of $1601.

The small laddu was meant for children and Arush and his team members Sanju, Vivan, Anjali, Ritu, Rohit and group emerged as the winners  with winning bid of $701.

The entire process of Laddu auction filled the hall with cheers and excitement ,  with echoes  of ‘Jai Bolo Ganesh Maharaj Ki ‘ resounding through the hall.

After the celebrations, dinner was served to all participants and  ATF’s biggest event ‘Bathukamma festival-2014’ was  announced. Bathukamma will  be held at Dundas community centre on Saturday 27th September 2014.

The organising committee  thanked all the sponsors, members and the volunteers who worked hard to make this event a grand success.
