One minute they seemed like the average girls next door, with good looks, youthful freshness and a twinkle in their eyes and the next minute, they floored the audience with their attitude, oomph and intelligence.

The participants walked down the ramp with ease, teaming their attires with attractive stilettos. It was a visual and mental treat for all those who went to attend ( including myself ) the event, ‘Dreamgirl 2014’ expecting little or nothing and came out feeling triumphant that they had hit a splendid bargain, getting great value for their money .

‘Dreamgirl 2014’ which took place on Friday August 2 , 2014 in Sydney Bahai centre was a successful outcome of the tireless effort put in by  Navneet Leo and his lovely wife Anju  and turned out to be equally uplifting ,as it was promised to the public.

It was certainly more than any average “Beauty Pageant “event where about 10 short listed pretty girls tested their mettle over several rounds and exhibited their extraordinary talents.

The event was a bonanza of colour, costume and culture where the rich heritage across the globe including Indian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Greek and Spanish was boldly paraded.

Contestants pushed past their comfort zones from singing, dancing and acting in different languages. It was an entertainment packed night where the girls competed in two categories, “under 25” and “above 25” years of age.

They presented their skills and talents in various fields ranging from soulful music into tantalizing dances to Marshal Arts into Method acting.

The impressive list of judges to decide the fate of the girls comprised of ‘ Bruce  Hooshmand’: Film maker, ‘Anton Beebe’: Film Lecturer and Director, ‘Emily Wong’: Singer, Chinese TV Celebrity, ‘Poonam Gidwani’: Miss India 1986, ‘Uzma Beg’: RJ, Actor and ‘Shailla Quadra’: South American actor, producer, director‘Ms Julie Owens’, Labour Member for Parramatta in the Australian Parliament and ‘Mr Sam Dastyari’ an Australian Senator representing New South Wales, who were the guest of honour for the night, were all praises for the contestants and the event.

The other attractions included melodious renditions by ‘Vijay Jogia’ who kept the rhythm of the event going in between various rounds of the competition. The very talented ‘Varun Tiwari’was the official choreographer for the event, who proved his worth very well.

‘Au Broadway’ did a brilliant job of making the girls look prettier with their makeup and styling.

The event was proudly supported by Sanjay Deshwal from Australian Visa and Migration company sponsoring the stay of winners in Bombay for seven days,  Yogesh Sharma from cinestar fashions for the lovely and trendy outfits for all the contestants , Simranjeet Singh  of Fortune World Travels for the travel tickets for the winners and Rohit Duggal from Mr Office for all the printing requirements.

The Crown winner in the under 25 category was “Sharon Mary George” and “Regan Antonio”  was entitled as runner up,  whereas in the above 25 years category  “Simi Ahuja Nanda” won the title  followed by “Maria Tran”  as runner up.

Very versatile ‘Maria’ won the hearts of the public and also bagged the most coveted ” Audience Choice ” award and a gift voucher of $300 from Fortune  Travels along with many other small and big prizes. Another contestant “Komal Suri” made a huge rapport with Facebook admirers getting over 14000 likes; and was awarded the ‘most popular contestant on Facebook’ title. The program was beautifully anchored by the lovely “ Yolanda Franken”.

The winners of both the categories will get a chance to spend 7 beautiful days of their life in the most alluring and sought after Bollywood industry, meeting actors, directors, and getting some crash courses in the renowned acting schools.

Navneet and Anju’s dream baby was well accepted and praised by the audience and they plan to make it even bigger and better next year.

Overall it was a fascinating evening which left the audience dreamy eyed about the world of beauty and talent and the lovely divas that will soon embark their journey to the city of dreams, to live their dreams. May all   their dreams come true…
