Cherrybrook came alive with Diwali celebration organised by AICCI

Australian Indian Cultural Council (AICCI), organised its first Diwali Fair in Cherrybrook on October 12, 2014 which turned out to be a great success.

This was the first ever of its kind of ‘Diwali fair’ for the local community of the Hills District  which witnessed over 8000 people and the organisers were pretty  happy with the response they got from the multicultural communities.

Efforts put by AICCI were evident in well-planned array of stalls, children rides, cultural programs, DJ and other supporting facilities in the venue.

The event was inaugurated by puja (Ganesh Vandana) and lighting of lamp by Matt Kean, MP (Parliamentary Secretary for Communities, Member for Hornsby), Cr. Gurdeep Singh (Deputy Mayor Hornsby Shire Council), Cr David Citer (Kurin-gai Council) and AICCI team.

The day was lighted up with scintillating performances by more than 300 performers and cultural groups with bhangras, dances, kids programs, musical items, flash mobs and excellent work by MCs.

Crowd enjoyed ethnic Indian food with a great variety provided by three renowned caterers in Sydney. Some other stalls offered information ranging from property, banking, Indian clothes, cosmetics, jewellery etc.

Many lucky prizes were offered during the fair that ranged from Lakshmi Gold Bar, safe deposit box, memberships to swimming centre, driving school lessons, Indian restaurants membership card and gifts ranging from mobile phone, tickets to upcoming concerts and Airfare to India etc.

The day ended with exceptional show of colourful fireworks that lit the sky and ground giving a touching finale to one of the biggest and best shows in the area ever.

The organising members including Parveen Gupta, Shalinder Suri, Gurmeet Singh, Harish Mitter, Abha Shrotriya, Nidhi Aggarwal and Ashwani Jain did a fabulous team work to make this Diwali fair successful.

AICCI executive team thanked all the stakeholders including the local Hornsby Shire Council, sponsors, supporters, media partners, volunteers, event partners, family members and community members for supporting the inaugural event from AICCI.

AICCI executive team also thanked Prime Minister Tony Abbott for his video message, Philip Ruddock MP, John Robertson, Matt Kean , Geoff Lee , Mayor Steve Russell, Deputy Mayor Gurdeep Singh and Cr. Ryan Tracey for their support.
